Your final "Why I am a Designer" catalogue is due on Friday.
Please come to class on time, and be prepared to hand in your final printed version of your catalogue.
As discussed in class, craft is super important and factored into the grade, so be conscious of how you are finishing everything.
Additionally, be prepared to discuss 3 ideas for your degree project in class (but nothing printed is due for your degree project). We'll be doing some brainstorming in class, but come with ideas to discuss.
For Friday 3/15, please bring in a complete printout of your entire “Why I am a Designer” catalogue, printed at full-size.
Also, bring in a single 8.5 x 11” page listing 3 possible Degree Project topics including a list of media that might be included. (Text only. No imagery.)
We’l have a design review. Please bring in
+ Full size printouts (not bound) of all pages of your “Why I am a Designer” catalogue ready for review.
We’ll also be discussing Degree Project topics/media, and what sorts of things you Designers make.
Everyone’s designs look great. Now you have to implement!
Bring in a cover and at least 3 fully flushed out spreads including copy for your Why I am a Designer catalogue.
Also, bring in a binding dummy (it can be paper only) for your catalogue.
Due 2/8 / Meeting back at Ryder / 1:30pm, Friday
For this Friday: The 4 final plates of your Designer Report are due; For your “Why I am a Designer Catalogue” start planning all the topics for your book, and develop the design of your book more fully. Start flushing out the design of your book. What will it look like? How will you bind it? Bring in printouts of your in process design. We’ll have some work time as well. Finally, we’ll be reviewing the topic of “Paper” on Friday.
Week 3: Meeting at the ICA at 2:30 on Friday
For Friday, we’ll have a more intense design review.
Please bring printed full size (11x17) printouts of your 4 “Report on Graphic Designer” Plates, including all written descriptions corrected, all pages for a final review.
Also, please bring 4 initial pages of your “Why I am a Designer Catalogue”. The size of your catalogue is up to you.
Week 2: Silvia & the Situationists
For Friday, the following is due:
A3 / Written response to Essay #3 due.
B / 100% sketches due for your Report on Graphic Designer.
C / Preliminary list of subjects for your Why I am a Designer Catalogue
For Week 2, Silvia’s presentation is rescheduled for the first part of the class. We’ll also be discussing the second article by Veronique Vienne entitled The Spectacle: A Reevaulation of the Situationist Thesis. Please respond to the article, and be prepared to discuss your findings. Finally, choose the designer you’ll be focusing on for your report on a Graphic Designer and create a rough draft of the copy you’ll incorporate into the design. (Text only/no layouts; printed on 8.5x11” page).
